The Casita, although attached to the main house, has its own entrance, kitchenette, roomy bathroom with bathtub and washer and dryer. Has organic futon, outdoor gardens for sitting and views of our organic garden and Jemez Mountains. Located in a quiet established residental neighborhood off the beaten track with lots of trees. Las Manos Bed and Breakfast has walls made of bales of straw covered with concrete stucco. They are solid, fire proof, and have an energy efficient insulation value of R-50. This B&B is set within view of Colorado’s majestic 14,000-foot peaks. The 2,600-square-foot home, which includes two large suites ranging from 600 to 700 square feet, is owned and operated by William McQueen and Colleen Finley. They built it themselves. All of the wood visible in the house was locally harvested from standing-dead blue-stain/beetle-kill pine. The interior walls and two of the floors are made from adobe. More than 45 tons of earth was excavated from the inn’s front yard to make the walls and floors. Cabinets were made from pieces of recycled wood and even the bed frames were made by the owners from sustainable wood. Ceilings are insulated with R-50 recycled blown-in cellulose made from old newspapers. In summer, when the temperature is above 90 degrees, the temperature in the inn remains in the low 70s. The B&B does not have an air-conditioning system. The B&B is off the grid with the assistance of solar and wind generators. Propane-powered generators kick in when the property needs a power boost—typically when it is cloudy and the wind is not blowing. In-floor radiant heat is used on the first floor and gas fireplaces are available to guests upstairs if additional heating is needed. Windows open to allow in Colorado’s fresh air. Towels and linens are dried the old-fashioned way—on clothes lines, even in winter. “All of our cleaning products have no additives,” McQueen adds. “We clean windows with vinegar and water. Or stay across the street in a charming 2 bedroom/2 bathroom Craftsman-style Cottage (houses up to 6) built in 1927 and remodeled in 2006. Living area, kitchen, washer/dryer, lovely backyard with huge trees. Rates: start at $125/night. Continental breakfast food in kitchen or eat breakfast at The Ranch house. Guest quarters have hard-surfaced floors cleaned with mild vinegar solution. No fireplaces or carpet. Each room has its own air system; no air ducts to the guest's room. Individual systems are electric heat pumps and each has an outdoor compressor - system has virtually no sound. Building is brand new, steps were taken to reduce moisture as the house was being built, dehumidifier used as needed. Windows open. Cleaning products: vinegar mixed with water. No air fresheners. High efficiency washing machine - for washing, hot water and 3 tablespoons of non-scented detergent used; 2 tablespoons of softener used per wash in bed linens, none in towels. No pesticides or herbicides used. Smokers not accepted as guests or visitors. No pets. House built energy efficient with lots of insulation. Enjoy the elegance and tranquility of a Victorian setting. Trimble House was built in 1898 and is on the historic tour of homes. The Parlour and Dining Room at Trimble House are available for small gatherings, such as small family reunions, business and club retreats. Vinegar and baking soda used for cleaning, just water can be used if requested. Linens dried outdoors on a line; no anti-static products used. Entire house, yard organic, no chemicals, pesticides ever; use electric lawn mower (no fumes). No fireplaces. Guest rooms have some rugs which are vacuumed. Baseboard electric heat, open windows and fans for cooling (fans seldom needed due to fresh mountain breezes). Windows open in guest rooms. Natural, organic body care products, including locally-made luxury soaps, Dr. Bonner's Almond soap, Witch Hazel aftershave, and oxygenating mouthwash provided. Cozy duvet available upon request. "Pampered Guest" Options, available on a gratuity basis, include: Hot Tonic Bath, Foot Spa, Clay Facial, Breakfast in . Tobacco-free, alcohol-free, caffeine-free, and for the most part, free of electronic gadgets. No alarm clock, television, radio or Internet service, but a guest phone is in hall. Family pets in residence. No guest pets allowed. Breakfast served at 9:00am (natural, organic). Beverages: herbal teas, fresh-squeezed juices, milk, or rice or soy milk upon request. In a beautiful setting looking out over the Olympic mountain range, Morgan Hill Retreat has luxurious amentities and a gracious inn owner who is willing to accommodate travelers with MCS. Non-smoking, wonderful clean air, windows open very wide. Marcia uses non-toxic, unscented, biodegradable cleaners. Chemically sensitive travelers should request the apartment.
